Hope you had a great weekend! We read a great story this past week. I hope you kept the plot diagram in mind. We will be answering questions 3 to 7 on Monday in our journals. Look them over. Today's blog contains some background information to help with understanding the story. Can you add any information? Today, in class I mentioned a book called The Cay by Theodore Taylor. Today in class we reviewed Story Elements and Plot Diagram in preparation for our first short story! Did you already know this information? It should be a review. Can you name some common themes in young adult literature? Can you share with me some examples of where you have seen these themes in your favorite books and short stories? In case you missed it or want to see it again here are the videos we viewed in class. On Thursday 9/11/14 we looked at an article about a dancer who lost her leg at the Boston Marathon. (here) We also saw her dance with her "bionic" leg. (click here to view the entire video) Think about the bold actions it takes to overcome obstacles in your life. Can you find any articles that describe kids who have overcome great obstacles to accomplish a goal in their lives? Post in the comments below the web address for anything you find and a short summary of the article. Remember to post your name (first name and least initial) along with your class period, so that I can give you credit for your hard work!
